London, 28 April 2025 - Former Johns Hopkins researcher and Behavox AI leader Hossein Hadian has joined AI-powered driving risk assessment company InsureVision, taking on the role of Chief Scientific Officer.
InsureVision, which recently secured $2.7m in seed funding led by Rethink Ventures, Twin Path Ventures, and State Farm Ventures, will leverage Hadian's expertise to further develop their transformative "enviromatics" technology that analyses footage from standard forward-facing cameras to deliver comprehensive contextual risk assessment.
Hadian's journey is extraordinary. Discovered in Iran by the John Hopkins University Center for Language and Speech Processing team, the world leading lab in speech recognition and birth place of the industry-standard Kaldi toolkit, Hadian was handpicked from a region typically isolated from Western tech advancement. After Hadian completed what the team called "a very challenging task," they were so impressed they provided full funding for Hadian to join their elite research team in the US.
There, Hadian published groundbreaking papers that significantly influenced the field and became a core contributor to Kaldi itself - the toolkit that revolutionised speech processing. During the COVID pandemic, his talents didn't go unnoticed; talent scouts discovered him through GitHub activity, eventually bringing him to Canada where his expertise in transformer AI technology continued to develop.
Now at InsureVision, Hadian will oversee model development, data preparation, annotation supervision, evaluation, benchmarking, and ensuring model efficiency—essentially leading everything at the core of the company's AI capabilities.
On his decision to leave a secure position for a startup, Hadian stated, "At some point we have to accept change to grow. With our technology, we can fundamentally transform how the industry assesses risk. In five years, when all cars have cameras, turning that video into useful insights will be incredibly valuable."
InsureVision CEO Mark Miller expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment: "Bringing Hossein on board as our CSO is a tremendous win for InsureVision. His exceptional AI expertise and vision are exactly what we need to advance our unique vision transformer technology. Having someone of his calibre leading our AI department will accelerate our ability to deliver groundbreaking risk assessment solutions to our partners."
The company's platform has implications that span multiple industries, including insurance, fleet operations, and automotive manufacturers, with trials of its technology currently underway with major insurance companies across the US and scheduled for Japan. Results demonstrating proof of value are expected mid-2025.
