Leading Liverpool-based business launches new initiative to reach net zero by 2028 as part of an investment in ESG

by wrich

Liverpool-based business, Algeos, has launched a new initiative to achieve net zero by 2028. The project comes as part of Algeos’ continued investment in ESG and how the business is adapting manufacturing processes to meet their sustainability commitments.

Algeos’ objective is to monitor and reduce its carbon footprint and improve sustainability across the business, to be inline with the NHS net zero guidelines for suppliers to publish a carbon reduction by April 2024.

Some of its future initiatives also include the introduction of new uniforms made by 100% recycled material, the implementation of a comprehensive net zero strategy and further investment into renewable energy, and electrical vehicles.

At present, Algeos sends zero waste from their operational and manufacturing sites to landfill, while they have completely overhauled their packaging, replacing plastic tape with paper and adopting paper shredding as opposed to bubble wrap. Algeos also practises additive manufacturing, which significantly reduces waste and is part of the research and development process.

Algeos is a world-leading innovator and manufacturer of podiatry, orthotics and footwear products and technologies, and has been keeping people moving for 140 years. With a global customer base and supplying 85% of the 295 NHS trusts across the UK, Algeos is in a unique position to make great strides towards reducing its own carbon footprint, reaching net zero, and minimising its impact on the environment by 2028.

Max Sheridan, managing director, said:

“I am immensely proud to be launching this new net zero initiative as part of our further investment into ESG. Reducing our carbon footprint and achieving net zero is something we take very seriously here at Algeos, and we’re implementing some important procedures to be more sustainable.

“At Algeos, we are committed to achieving net zero by 2028. In order to continue our progress toward achieving this, we have launched a number of carbon reduction targets which are testament to our reputation in the manufacturing industry and our aim to be carbon neutral, while continuing to provide our employees with refillable water bottles and a cycle to work scheme as well.”
